I have got a new tool for teachers to use in class. Pay attention because is a very useful and interesting one to use with our students.
We can say that it is the first step to create a video. That is because, in order to record a video, it is very important to create first a storyboard.
A storyboard consists of drawings and notes in frames, which represent the different scenes in the video story. Besides, we can also add music, characters, dialogue, sounds, narration, transitions, effects, etc.
In this case, we have decided to choose this tool in order to help our students to learn something about the 7 Wonders of the World. It would be a video in which three friends visit the Seven Wonders of the World. So, I said before, in order to prepare a video about it, we have created a storyboard.
Our storyboard is called “The Seven Wonders of the
world”. It is about three friends. Two of them (Eva María and Marta) are bored
in the kitchen, they don’t know what to do. That is the moment that Eva comes
to the kitchen with a brilliant idea. She has three magic balls that allow them
to go wherever they want. Taking advantage of them, they will travel and visit
the Seven Wonders of the World: The Great Wall of China, Petra, Christ the
Redeemer, Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza, Colosseum and Taj Mahal. Each one is going
to visit two of them and will explain to them a little bit of each monument, and the continent and city where it is located.
In order to create storyboards, there is an application that could very helpful. It is called "StoryboardThat" https://www.storyboardthat.com/ . It has a free option that allows us to create a storyboard formed only by 6 scenes. It can be said that this platform is a very good one in order to present the first step of making a video. But, we have found some disadvantages. The first one is the limitation of scenes. That is why we have not used it to create or storyboard because if we want to show the Seven Wonders of the World, we do not have enough only with six scenes. Another disadvantage of the free option of this platform is that it does not allow us to use images from a different source. That means, we have to use the images that it provides and they are not always going to fit with the story you want to tell.
Due to all these reasons, in this case, we have used a template to create the storyboard. In order to make the images, we used emojis from the app "Bitmoji", images from Pixabay and Microsoft Office Word to combine them. The audio effects are from Zapsplat. Finally, we have used Drive to complete the template. And here you can see the result:
